3DSMax 8 - XFile texture transparency?

Hey guys, I've textured a mesh in 3DSMax with a 32-bit png glass texture such that the opacity of the mesh is grabbed from the alpha channel of the texture. How can I export this behavior via an xfile? is it even possible? I get the diffuse channels of the glass texture only... with 100% opacity (it just looks like bright noise). I'm using the DX Viewer to look at the mesh... although the game I am working on also shows just noise. What gives?
