.NET for mobile devices is known as the .NET Compact Framework. It's pretty much the same as the normal .NET Framework aside from some advanced features. I played with it a while ago and put together a Pocket Tic Tac Toe.

In Visual Studio 2005, If you go File -> New -> Project... Smart Device -> Device Application, there you have your mobile application using the .NET Compact Framework [wink].

It's missing a ton of classes. At a rough estimate, about a third of the normal .NET Winforms namespace still exists in the Compact Framework, for example. But yeah, all the really basic classes are there, and you can usually work around the bits that are missing.

All Pocket PCs running Microsoft Windows Mobile will support the .NET compact framework. All other phones, will not run the framework.

At the moment, the market share of MS Windows Mobile is very limited, so there aren't a great deal of phones running it.
