DPlay in standard win32 Client/Server app

I am planning on writing an client/server app, basically the server hold info in a DB and the client just updates and requests the info in the DB via Server App Since this is not essentially a game, is there a reason why i shouldn''t use Dplay. Is Dplay an abstraction of Winsock ? Should I use straight up Winsock ? Is there anything in Dplay that might limit the functionaliy of my app later down the line? How is Dplay for Speed? Thanks for your help Damien

So for what I''ve found is that DPlay8 is based off Winsock. It handles messages seamlessly for you, and really isn''t hard to deal with - it''s just a little pain in the butt at times

I''m really getting to like it, and per the docs, it''s scalable to allow up to a few thousand connections.

I''m going to be using DP8 in my current book to talk about Multiplayer RPG''s.
