Realloc in C++...ok?

I know using malloc in C++ is taboo, but as there is no realloc equivalent using new/delete, I'm wondering if it is generally considered acceptable to use realloc/free in cases when constructor/destructor calls aren't necessary (as in with floats), or should I just get accustomed to manually copying contents and reallocating using new? I ask because I am writing code which will be viewed in a professional atmosphere, and don't want to come off poorly. Thanks!
