X file parsing

Hi Iam planning to write an X to my own format converter. Iam just wondering if its possible to use D3DX functions to get out all the data or do Ive to write my own parser? thanks

The d3dx library with all its models classes give you pretty much all the information you need for exporting it out.

Reasons why you'd want to parse the x file is if you are dealing with multiple platforms where the d3dx library is not available.

I want to convert it to make it smaller and remove things I don't need.
It would be nice if it exist functions like LoadXFile, GetXVertex, GetXVertexColors etc, so I don't have to parse the format my myself.
