I'm creating a virtual Rubik's Cube. Right now i'm trying to implement picking cubes on the rubiks. I'm wondering if using the OpenGL APIs for picking is the best route to go. Thanks in advance.

As far as I know you can only use OGL picking if you use immediate mode rendering, i.e. don't use vertex buffers or display lists. So it depends how you are rendering your cube.

That's wrong, you can use selection mode with vertex arrays and display lists. Kind of useless otherwise.
