well, I want to create a multiplayer game using bluetooth for my project. I can't decide whether to use .net or java. Some of you might have developed games using both platform and could therefore list advantages and disadvantages. I hope that there will be some good arguments. Here are my current thoughts: C#` - for smartphones and pocket pc only - Easier for development (meaning everything is pretty much in one place) - better than java for pocket pc according to a paper I read J2me - all types of mobile phones - There are java versions though

Use .NET, Bluetooth can be a bitch in J2ME!

If you're aiming for commercial success, do J2ME though. MUCH broader base of handsets that support it (but nasty platform fragmentation because nobody seems to adhere to any standards).

Why is .net better when using bluetooth? Sorry i haven't done much research about Bluetooth because i wanted to get the language sorted out first. But now it seems that bluetooth might have more influence than I thought.

The game will not commercialised but the fact that J2ME has a broader base of handsets is good advantage.

I'm just trying to do a pros and cons list before picking the language.

I have developed bluetooth applications for both J2ME and MS Smartphone.

What he means is, if you use C#, you don't have to know eactly how bluetooth works in order to use that functionality. For j2me, you have to know it like the back of your hand. There are many lines of code involved for just setting everything up correctly. With .NET, it will only take you maybe 10 lines to have an app that is discovering devices and sending files.

Thanks for that info :)

I'm thinking of programming in both languages just to learn more about the difference.

if someone else has other interesting info regarding the languages...it's welcome ;-)
