i had a quick question. im trying to build my own 2d game and im in the process of building a map editor for it. my question is, how do typical map editors display the tiles, the work area, etc. do you use the game engine to help display it? do you use dx/opengl for it? do you use traditional windows to display it? how do the professionals do it? thanks alot in advance -adam

What I did is use the same code the game uses to draw the level. The game runs at 800x600. I just draw the level in the upper 800x600 corner of the window and fit the interface in around that.

It does not look good (pic), but it was easy and works.

Im using Directx...so i just use a panel as the draw surface instead of going full screen...

At that point its just a regular windows application and i create a UI from windows controls that interface with my map editor object.
