Hi, i got this problem with macromedia director (8.5): member(member name, cast name) gets the score layer that's equal to the cast member's number, even when the cast member is on a totally different layer. In this case i have 3 buttons with numbers 3, 6 and 7 and names like btn_startgame etc., and they are located on layers 3,4 and 5. I can only get the first button's sprite (as the layer it's on is the same as it's number) but not the others. Is there a way around this or is this just another strange director thing?

It's been a while since I've used Director, but usually you don't want to work directly on members but rather address everything by sprite number, which is equal to the number of the timeline it sits on. This is unrelated to the member's number or name.

You could compare with a class (=member) versus an instance (=sprite) in C++ for example. Hope this helps a bit, I'm not really sure I understand your problem.

Well, for sprites that are always there and don't get copied or removed i prefer to use the names of the cast members rather than numbers because it's easier to read for me and most people i'd think.

member(membername, castname) should get a reference to the member named membername but it doesn't, instead it does something completely illogical.

Is there any other way to do it?
