I am using bloodshed dev c++, i have been reading all day on how to initialize direct3d, i have to link to a library but that is the problem, the only directx libraries i have within the dev library are libd3dim,libd3drm and libd3dxof. I also have others but i have found these are not relevant to direct3d. So i linked to the libd3dim and it seemed to work as it was no longer saying that d3d8.h was not there but i have this error. Compiler: Default compiler Building Makefile: "C:\Dev-Cpp\Makefile.win" Executing make... make.exe -f "C:\Dev-Cpp\Makefile.win" all g++.exe -c Untitled12.cpp -o Untitled12.o -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include/c++" -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include/c++/mingw32" -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include/c++/backward" -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include" -lm lib/libd3dim.a g++.exe: cannot specify -o with -c or -S and multiple compilations make.exe: *** [Untitled12.o] Error 1 Execution terminated

g++.exe -c Untitled12.cpp -o Untitled12.o -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include/c++" -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include/c++/mingw32" -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include/c++/backward" -I"C:/Dev-Cpp/include" -lm lib/libd3dim.a

You don't link to a library by adding its name to the command line. Replace "-lm lib/libd3dim.a" with "-lm -ld3dim".

However, it sounds like libd3dim is for "D3D immediate mode" and libd3drm is for "D3D retained mode". If that's correct, your libraries are very old and you should look for some newer ones.
