RL in C#

I wanted to attempt making a Rogue Like in C#. However, am unsure how to go about the display. For example - traditional RL's use standard ASCII for characters for everything: ..... .@... ....X ..... And I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions on how to do this using either a label or text box without having to completely reformat each string each time you touch the keyboard.

I'm actually working on a roguelike myself, in C# (it started as C++, then was migrated to Python, and is now C#).

However, I haven't tried going the label/text box route. The way I handled it was to use OpenGL to draw the display. I simply created an image file with all of the ascii characters, and then drew them to the screen as texture mapped quads.
