Currently I have tried several memory leak detectors with dumalib being the best so far but they only seem to register leaks in console base apps. When I try a similar test in a SDL [int * blah = new int(9)] it fails to detect the leak. Am I completely missing something? Any help will be appreciated.

Where is the information supposed to be output? If you find they work in console apps, but you don't have a console, then it might still be 'working' but you just don't see the output. Having said that, SDL usually produces a stdout.txt and stderr.txt after execution which might contain the information you mean.

Duma normally outputs to the console. It doesn't appear in the stderr or stdout.
This is what I get, after I exit the program, the console waits for input till it disappears and that is where it should pick up the leak. :/
