Loading larger textures

All the examples on internet and books seem to be teaching how to load 256x256 textures. How can I load larger textures, e.g. 1200x800 or something. How about smaller textures?

Check the documentation what the width and height parameters of glTexImage2D means. Should give you a hint what you need to change to take textures other than 256x256 ones.
