Does D3DXFLOAT16 exist at all in Managed DX? If not, can someone point me to a conversion algo that takes the place of D3DXFloat32To16*()? Or is there some sort of 16bit float standard that they are using? !FROG

Disclaimer: I've not touched the Managed DX stuff at all.

The 32-bit floating point format is s23e8, and the 16-bit floating point format says it's s10e5. That is to say:

16 32
-- --
Sign 1 1
Mantissa 10 23
Exponent 5 8

Wikipedia's explanation of IEEE floating point seems pretty good:


So, if you want, you can bit-twiddle between the two.
