Hey guys. In your personal opinions what do you find to be the best or simplest or most effective 3d app for isometric tiles? I've heard Truespace and 3DS Max are good candidates but in my opinion too bulky. Is Blender a considerable option? I don't mean to limit to these three, I'd just like to know what might be the wisest program to consider. I'm a *HUGE* fan of Diablo and Diablo II; for trivia's sake, does anyone know what program Blizzard used for their Diablo engine's tiles? Thanks guys!

Diablo's tiles were rendered with an in-house tool while modeled in 3DS Max. The obvious answer is to do what you like most. If you can use Blender, I've heard it's great. 3DS Max is the "most used" out there next to Maya, if I remember correctly, but I'm a programmer, not an artist.

You can read more about Diablo 2's creation process here.
