Are there any free IDEs that use the Visual C++ compiler that aren't Visual Studio? I just seem to find that my Visual C++ Express freezes, crashes, or just gets slow, which is unacceptable for a text editor (which is all it is until I hit compile). I want to keep using the Visual C++ compiler so I don't have to recompile the libraries I'm using (like Boost and the OGRE engine). Are there any free ones out there that are worth using?

I believe you can use Code::Blocks with the Microsoft compiler. It might be only for the VC Toolkit 2003, though. I have never used it, personally.

Yes, Code::Blocks can be used with the MS compiler (among many others) but be aware that even if it is not actually bad (I use it myself) it cannot be compared with the Visual C++ IDE. Of course, since you're using the Express edition, perhaps you wont loose too many features, but if only the express edition provides the debugger, then you will find how much the two IDEs are different.

The Express Edition does provide the debugger.

I haven't had any stability problems with Visual Studio, though, so it might be worth identifying the cause.
