Hi, looks like Ive gotten too used to shaders. Currently im developing for PDA's which doesnt support shaders in DirectX. Now I just want to make a nice marble(sphere) with some specular effects. What would be the best way? Do I have to lock the texture every frame? -CProgrammer

The way I do specular effects in fixed function is with a two-pass aproach. First draw the normal geometry, then setup a texture with nice specular highlights, additive blending and enable spheremap texture coordinates generation and draw again. Can also be done in just one pass with multitexturing.
