Hi I am a programmer (average) in C/pascal and DarkBasic. I would like to write a 2D platform scrolling game (Like mario for instance). My problem that I have a hard time on thinking on how to represent the data. Is there any website/article/book which describe the theory behind making 2D platform game ? ( I don't need source code, the theory will be just fine) Thanks in advance

Which data? Tile-based games are typically represented by a big 2d array for the map (with each tile including it's image, collision and other data) and a simple list/dynamic array for the actual sprites/characters/items/etc.

Theres a few good articles on gamedev that go over the basics of tiled maps (old, but still relevant). For any more specific help I think you're going to have to narrow down your question somewhat.
