Smoke cloud

I'm still creating models for my game, but I wanted to figure out early on how to make smoke in game. Can I just create a bunch of quads, mask them with a smoke texture, and then blend them with the screen? Anyone else have a better way?

well, new hardware would also allow you to use 3D textures and ray-trace them.

you could search google for "volumetric smoke" there should be some work on it.
