I trying to find some current books on Windows programming. Can anyone make some good suggestions?

If you are programming using the Win32 API, its still the definitive guide. Microsoft has added a lot of stuff on top of it and created extensions to many existing functions, but it a very solid place to start. Then the MSDN references (either online or on disc) is the next best source of information on Windows (straight out of the horses mouth). Its more of a reference, than a how to guide, but its very nice to have around.

most of that code will compile and work today with little to minor changes. the basic core of the Win32 api has changed little over the last decade, with the exception of the COM stuff. for more XP Win32 api specifics, once you get advanced enough you learn to hack your way through MSDN to find all the newer stuff or you pick up books that cover specifics like COM, DirectShow, Multithreading, and CLI programming.
