Nvidia and DXT1
I've been looking for more info on the old problem Nvidia had with DXT1 compression. Sadly google isn't being helpful on this, since it just turns up links to 5-year-old postings on the subject and lots of references to Nvidia's DXT utility.
Has this problem been fixed on current Nvidia hardware? Is there a list somewhere for which flavours of their hardware do/don't have the problem?
Apparently, it was an old bug in the actual hardware (I believe GF3 series). At that time, they solved the problem by having the driver convert the bits manually to DXT3/5, since the hardware worked fine with that.
The problem has since been corrected in recent hardware generations.

Also, according to recent talk on DIRECTXDEV, GeForceFX cards also have an issue with DXT1, where they decompress it to 16 bits, instead of the 32 it should be. From what I understand from the posts there, this has also been fixed in a driver.
Hope this helps.
