Detecting Input

What would you suggest as the best way to detect input? I'm going to be creating a 3D game using DirectX and I was wondering if it would be better to use DirectInput, or a different kind of input method to detect input for the game (we're looking to have mouse, keyboard, joysticks, and dual analog game controllers i.e. 360 controllers).
