[.net] what is this?? "please set registry key?" ??
OK, so I tried running the exe that I compiled and ran successfully LAST NIGHT, and since then I've changed NOTHING on my entire PC. Instead of running, I get the message "Please set the registry key HKLM\Software\Microsoft\.NETFramework\InstallRoot to point to the .Net Framework install location". What the hell does that mean? Where is this registry and how do I do that? Why didn't it complain yesterday??
I tried going to ControlPanel -> Add/Remove Programs to repair the .Net framework, but then I get "Error 1719. The Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode, or if the Windows Installer is not correctly installed. Contact your support personnel for assistance." I'm NOT in safe mode, and I HAVE installed numerous things in the past, INCLUDING THE .NET FRAMEWORK. Why can't I even repair it?
To make matters worse, I can't download the Windows Installer 3.1 because of some crap about ActiveX and it tells be to click something on the information bar, which refuses to even appear.
I'm using Windows XP Pro, x64 edition (which I'm beginning to hate)
Can someone please get my exe which ran YESTERDAY to run??
:-(
I'm not sure if I fixed it just now... I downloaded a 64-bit update for the windows installer then redownloaded the .net runtime (but not the sdk). Installing, and this is on an insanely fast machine, took over 40 minutes. But somehow my code compiles and runs now. I expect it to break again any minute... I'll post if it does.
