VC2005 won't save converted VC6 project - need suggestions!
I loaded a project built in VC6 into VC2005, it ask if I want to convert the associated files, I say yes, and it loads. It compiles without issue. However, even if I save the project, when I re-open it ask all over again if I want to convert the files and it doesn't save the files I added to the project in the project. The files are there in the directories, but not part of the project.
So I deleted the .dsw file out of the project and opened the project through the .sln file. But now it won't re-create the .dsw file.
Any suggestion or reasons why?
The .sln file replaces the old .dsw file. Delete the .dsw, and open the project using the .sln in future.
Yep thats what I have had to do. Is that standard that if there is a .dsw file part of the 'old' project you are loading, that it won't allow you to save any changes you make to the project once it is loaded (like adding files to the project)?
I don't follow... .dsw files are VC6 workspace files, .sln are VC2003 / 2005 workspace files. When you load a .dsw in VC2005, it'll save it as a .sln. No changes will be made to the .dsw, since VC2005 doesn't use .dsw files.
You can't open a VC6 workspace in VC2005, edit it, then save it in a format VC6 will understand - as far as I know anyway.

That's correct, once you convert an older visual studio project into a newer version of visual studio, it will convert it to the newest version available. It's just a gentle reminder from Microsoft that everyone should be using their latest and greatest. So Visual Studio can always read older project formats, but never write to them. That being said, there used to exist converters to convert VS .Net 2K3 projects back to VS6, and I'm sure it wouldn't take too much work to find one, though I haven't really looked to see if there are any for VS 2k5 (yet).
