Do most game companies want Maya experience?

Hi all, I am transitioning out of a career in architecture into game art. In looking at about 50 job listings at Gamasutra it appeared that 3 or 4 wanted 3DS Max, 20 were happy with either 3DS or Maya and the rest wanted Maya. I have never used either one but my local jr.college has a program that teaches 3DS Max but not Maya. Am I limiting my options by using 3DS Max?

Either 3ds or Maya will be 100% fine in getting a job... if you can do quality work, it is normally a nominal factor if you are proficient in one or the other. US game studios are about 50/50 split in Maya/3ds, AFAIK. Try them both ideally and go what you're comfortable in, or just go for 3ds if that's what's available to you.

Thank you so much.
I realize this topic must come up all the time. It's such a huge investment in the unknown.
