The best way to make fadeout effect in directsound

Hi there i use DirectSound8 in my project is it possible to have a fadeout effect in my DirectSoundSecondaryBuffer8?? i know i can use DSBPOSITIONNOTIFY and setup some events and then in their callback use SetVolume for my buffer... any idea to use different method to do this? i can send you my full source code (vb) (sorry for my poor english)

The only other way would be to use a 3D sound and move it away from the listener gradually, but that's actually harder and cheezier.
