how to invoke a file in c++

hi! is there a way for this? if a user presses "h" on the keyboard, a notepad file will open, with all the help info on how to use the program. how does one do that in c++? please help :(

Have a look at the Win32 API ShellExecute as well. This has the advantage that you don't need to "know" the application associated with a particular file type.

For example, if you called this on an .html file, the user's default browser would be called, not whichever browser you choose to invoke.
