Point Sprites + Scaling

I'm working on my particle engine and adding point sprites. I finally got the scale attenuation working. Check out this link if you aren't in the loop. Once point scaling is enabled, the point size is assumed to be in world space. It seems like the scaling attenuation factors could and should be standardized to match up with the size of screen-aligned quads. I'm trying to find attenuation factors for D3DRS_POINTSCALE_A (_B and _C) to match up with the size of my billboarded quads. It seems like a=0, b=0, c=1/2 is the best fit. Has anybody messed with these factors and produced good results?
