a mix between opengl and sdl?

if i wanted to make a game with 3d environments but 2d characters and stuff like that, could i use a mix of opengl and sdl? or should i just use opengl or just use sdl? any and all opinions and advice are welcomed and appreciated.

You can use OpenGL to render 2D; I use SDL in my mixed-2D-and-3D games to start up, load textures and manage input and sound, and then from there everything is rendered in OpenGL.
