I use GameMonkey as my primary scripting language. I prefer it over Lua for both its syntax and its API (Lua's API is horrible for me to use). GameMonkey can do a most things that lua can do (co-routines, etc) but doesn't support closures like Lua does and doesn't have the sizable community that Lua has behind it. In short, it's a great language but you may find yourself on your own a little more than if you used Lua.

You may want to run a forum search for "GameMonkey", there are plenty of topics here.
Also, you may be interested in checking out the "AngelScript" sub forum, which is yet another alternative to embedded scripting.
