SDL and FRAPS to make demo-movie?
Hello.
Trying to use FRAPS demo version from fraps.com to record the game I am making for a short demo.
However, it does not seem to recoqnize the SDL program/window as a game?
Anyone know how I should go about to make this work?
Or is there some other program I can use to make .avi files or like from in-game?
Thanks in advance.
As far as I know, FRAPS only works with OpenGL and Direct3D, so unless you're using OpenGL with SDL you're out of luck.
A cumbersome solution could be to let your game output a lot of .bmp-file (or some other format) frames and then have a program like mencoder convert them into an AVI or MPEG file.
But I'm not in doubt that there's easier ways to accomplish what you're doing.

Maybe if I initialize SDL as OpenGL but then dont use the openGL function in themself?
Unless there is some advantage in that over regular sprites and such for pure 2D graphics.

Well, if you use OpenGL you can't use ordinary SDL stuff like surfaces and such.
Current there's a OpenGL backend for SDL in the works, but I don't think you'll see it before SDL 1.3. Alternatively there's glSDL (google it) which theoretically should allow you to use OpenGL with SDL, without having to change any code.
But, again, there's probably easier ways to do it :)
Try googling for desktop-recording software. If you're just using plain SDL (with the win32 GDI backend), you should be able to use any desktop-recorder for it.

You could rewrite a bit of code using the hxrender wrapper for SDL, makes SDL work in opengl on hardware, but keeps it nice and smiple :)
