Importing Maya animation to my engine

Hey everyone! I use Maya for both moddeling and animation for my game project, the problem is I'm having a hard time figuring out how to import my animations into my engine. I save my Maya models as .obj files so that bit is easy, but as far as animation goes, importing it and applying it to the models I make I'm in the dark :s Should I just do my animation with another tool? How do I go about importing the files and applying them to the models? Any tutorials, papers, or code I can look at? Any help is appreciated! Cheers everyone!

you can use either fbx or collada if you can't be bothered to write an exporter, however you may find it to be more error prone than you expected. I put up a few little bits of info to get people started writing their own exporters for maya, which you can find here :
