interaction modelling help

Hey All. I am doing a project on modelling interactions in single player first person shooting games applications. In particular, i would like to know how the experts manage entities when a player interacts with entities in terms of updating entities, how entities are stored ie database or other means, how to handle multiple interactions at the same time, how to classify if an interaction is a valid one? if anyone knows any good background reference it will be greatly appreciated.
