3D Object Loader

Hi! I am trying to write a 3D object loader, to load 3d object (possibly *.3ds) files into an openGL based c/c++ game my friend and I are creating. I don't have much experience with this type of thing at all, and was hoping that someone could point me in the right direction? Thankyou, Tash

last i checked 3DS didn't support keyframe or skeletal animation. if your models are static you should be OK; but if they require animation you really probably want to export from your modeler to your own format.

Or export it to a file format like COLLADA then preprocess it into your own file format. The advantages to this is you can use any DCC program that will export COLLADA (Max, Maya, Blender...). There's some info, although not excellent, on how to do this on the COLLADA website and their forum.
