Loading Level Data

What is the best way to go about loading level data into a Portal Engine for a FPS? Do you load all sector data at one time and then load the data from
another sector when you go through a portal to the other sector?

Is there any way to continually load in data without having those awkward pauses between sectors?

I need a lot of help in this area. The how's and why would be great!

It funny how much stuff that's out on the web about the transformation and rendering parts of a Engine Pipe-Line and so little about the basic
get-up-and-go stuff.
