installing a boot loader

Here is the deal. I figure I can spend hours fiddling around searching and trying things or I can just as people that probably already know.
My wife has had some trouble letting go of her old computer system after I built her a much more modern one. What I would like to do is put her old HD in her new system and make it so she can boot into either her old OS or the new one. The problem is I don't really want put linux on her system but I would like to use LILO or GRUB to boot between her Windows versions. So is it possible to install one without installing linux?
Personaly it drives me crazy when she wants to use her old one over her new one, It has to go.
If its a boot choice between two windows versions you can edit boot.ini on the first disk, WARNING backup this file first.
I did have a bookmark for a good reference but cant seem to find it.

So far its not going so well. I managed to trash the file and there seems to be some extra work getting ol'ME to work using the boot.ini which I haven't figured out obviously

Sorry I did not see this, so you are trying to boot the old os with new hardware? There is a chance this is possible(slim, depending on the hardware and if you want to mess around alot), I would advise to make a clean install, but there are problems due to the os being ME which is no longer supported by MS and you will have problems finding drivers. What may be a better idea is to grab virtual pc from MS download section and use a virtual machine.

Well its a mess to be sure. A clean install isn't really possible and kinda renders the point pointless. Using the Ultamite Boot CD I was able to try and boot the old drive with a number of boot loaders and only one could actually boot the drive but it never would start. The new system isn't very top of the line and one would think ME should run fine, but guess not. Its just an Athlon XP. Something funky is going on with the partitioning on top of it all.
At least she has access to all her old files. If I could just get her to stick with Open Offfic instead of MS Word I wouldn't have a problem
