Graphics app for Borland C++ Builder 5?

I'm making a tile-based map editor using Borland C++ Builder 5. I normally use Visual C++ .Net and DirectX 9 for my graphcial needs, but I like to use Builder to make simple window programs. The problem: To render the tiles out I use the Form's Canvas->Pixels field to copy from an Image Canvas, but when I do it takes about 3 seconds to render out all the visible tiles. Clearly this is not acceptable for a smooth level editor. I would use DirectX, but I think its only compatible with Visual C++ .NET only, and I hear its the same for OpenGL. What are my options?
