If you were going to make a virus...

What would its effect be? I always thought it would cool if a virus could download the Firefox installer, install it without any dialogs, then change the default browser and write over IE. Wonder how many users wouldn't even realize the difference, except that all there porn-morgage-coupon-weather bars and popups were gone.
I think there's to much blood in my caffeine system.

When I was working as a Technician fixing software issues on PC's I always wished I had a virus that I could install on peoples computers that automatically removed Kazaa, Limewire, etc. That way I wouldn't have to deal with so many freaking viruses everyday.

A 'virus' I did create was a little autorun app that I put on to my CD's which connected to my computer and logged information from that PC, and worked a little like a zombie, and I could download to that machine too. Was very useful to me when some asshole stole my car (and subsequently my driver CD case). I managed to cause much pain to those who had annoyed me so (it isn't like they would have been able to do anything with my drivers/apps cds anyway).

I still wish I could have done something even more totally awesome, like format their hdd, or corrupt their boot sector. Or get enough information to track them down and get the police to raid them.
Looks like someone just hit my rating for (edit)26 now, or so(/edit) points... what I get for posting in the Lounge :(

If I were going to write a virus, assuming I had infinite knowledge and expertise, it would be a sort of denial of service attack. It wouldn't generate enough volume to cause an significant impairment for companies or individuals. Rather it would simply cause so many false positives on government fishing expedition programs as to render them useless.

I had a virus that did the exact opposite of what you just said, it ran Limewire at start up, disabled ctrl+alt+delete, and launched a new one when the last one closed (and shared itself).

I am not sure the name of it, but I think it comprises a pretty big percent of all those 220kb versions of Office XP you see floating around.

My virus would force Daikatana to launch at boot.

Slashdot had a frontpager just like this.
It would prevent the user from doing anything involving WoW, whether it involve playing it or going to websites about it.

Securty risk: [#############] HIGHWin32.WoWCleaner.1 has been known to cause human death.
What? Is a virus that plays a .wav file that yells "I'm looking at gay porn!" not enough?
