Hi! If you know the name (and maybe even the webadress) of magazines with CDs, could you please be so kind and post them here. Magazines from USA, England, France, Japan... the country doesn''t matter. I need this information to contact them about covermount deals. You would help me a lot. Cu!

I got an e-mail from someone who asked me whether I got an covermount deal for Smugglers. His e-mail wasn''t working, so I post it here.
Yes, I got one.

However I got responses from english mags that they "have an agreement with other UK magazines to not do covermounts". Strange.

That was probably me. Which mailadress didn''t work? When I tried sending you a mail via homtail I got a response that your SMTP srver didn''t accept mails from hotmail so I sent another one through my website destruction.nu.

Anyways which magazine agreed to include your game on a cover cd?

I have asked over ten magazines and not a single one has sent me a mail back. Maybe it''s because I''m using hotmail. Very strange.

It is the most selling videogame-related magazine for Spain(And I think that for most of SoutAmerica too).

Good luck...

Your best bet for Spain would be:"GameLivePC", they have two CDs, one with high profile demos and another one with (at least the two numbers I own) a FULL game. The two I got were MDK1 and a Kart Racing game many of us(together) could have done.
Its e-mail is:gamelive@ixoiberica.com.

Also try this general PC magazine, it has lots of demos and shareware:www.hobbypress.es\pcmania

Last help:Upload it to Fileplanet.com.

I simply clicked on "reply" and always got some SMTP error back. Dunno.

You''ll find the name announced on my website when it is published in a couple of months. I am not going into detail, because I am hoping for some online sales until then.

Don''t worry if you don''t get an answer though. That''s life. My luck maybe was that Smugglers really running 100% on every PC, so that the (few) editors who have spare time to try it at least ARE ABLE TO PLAY IT. This is not common for many shareware programs. This increases the chance that you get a deal a lot.
My point is, but this is nothing new on this board, to make it as easy as possible to be reviewed.

IMX, I''ve never actually asked to have a magazine include my software on their CD. Instead, they have either asked me for permission to include it, or have simply included without asking me.

I tend to find out what CD''s The Journal and Artifact are on after the fact, from users/players who mention it.

I didn''t wanted to wait that long.

I am more of the attitude: Who is not stalking, isn''t getting any prey.

After all online games might have it easier in this way. They attract more attention and keep players once they got them. Singleplayer games get played and then forgotten - if not constantly updates are made, what I do.

Thanks for the tip but I''m mostly interested in magazines that are sold internationally.

What I also would like to have is reviews of my game. The only "review" I''ve gotten is a tucows rating and some user comments on ZDNet. Does anyone know any places that gives free reviews?

most UK magazines wont put full games on there CDs. It something to do with fears that mags will start a publishing war to get the best and latest games on there CDs, which ends up hurting the games industry in the long run, i believe something like that started to happen in the late 80s/early 90s... so you dont get too many free commercial games on CDs unless they are a few years old and have already sold commercially.

Ahhh the reason magazines don''t put full version game''s on the cover CD''s is, Copyright infringment

They would have to pay who ever own''s the game or publisher a shyte load.

Once sales have stopped for a certain game then the publishers don''t care what happens.

Well that they pay for doing my game on their cover CD is the reason why I am doing it!!
However this doesn''t seem to be the reason why the UK magazines don''t do covermounts. A "a publishing war" sounds more likely.

Are you planning on any localization work, Jester? It seems like you could easily double your sales by translating to Japanese and Korean (for a game that actually needed translation). Or is English enough of a presence in these countries that it doesn''t really matter?

I''ve heard that Battle.Net Korea is one of the most active Diablo servers and that Diablo 2 sold over 1 million units in Korea alone! That kind of data makes me think shareware developers are missing the boat if they release a game solely in English.

Well, this is a point.
Unfortunately:
1. I cannot speak korean or japanese. That means I do not know of any korean/japanese download sites, etc. and I can''t list them there.
2. I cannot translate it myself and it won''t pay to translate it commercially.
3. I am not giving the sourcecode away for free (if ever)

UK PC mags won''t put the full game on because of the agreement but they willput the limited shareware version on, well I know PCGamer UK does that. Might get you a few more sales.

Hey Jester - again. I used your email on your website, but the pics/midis I designed bounced - and there''s another problem...my father "kindly" got me a new computer WORSE than my old one and reformatted my old one, killing the files. I can get in touch with some US magazine editors and see if they''ll put the shareware version of your game on it. You want me to?

Cheers
Ed
