I wouldn't use GDI+, it isn't really designed for pixel level work and you probably won't get the speed you need out of it.

Take a look at PixelToaster it's a very simple library for writing pixels to a display, it should perform better than GDI+.

To test my software engine I had it render to an array of bytes in memory representing the frame buffer, then I created a GDI bitmap from this and blitted it to the form. Seemed to work fine :-)

Good idea! That'll make page flipping easier as well.
