[java] Java 6 (javac compatible with 5)?

Does anyone know if Java 6 is backward compatible with Java 5 (that is the compiler, and what not)? I'm interested because I have been seeing a lot of cool new stuff about the new release, and I'm just wonderring if there were any "language" features added, which I don't think there were.
