Hey, I'm new to java development and I'm trying to write a game. For my fist step i'm hoping to get what is at the moment just a spreadsheet of numbers to appear as the map of the game on the page. I want the map to be where the player will be able to walk around etc. Pretty simple so far, everything's numbered 1-25, e.g. 1111 1331 1111 the above few lines of numbers would be building 3 surrounded by a path(1). Could anyone help me figure out how to get this to appear as the game "floor" using java programming? Much appreciated!!

If you just want to display a grid of numbers, look into setting up a JTable (be sure to place it within a JScrollPane). JTable's are incredibly easy to manage and add information to. See Java's JTable Tutorial for help with that.

Or, if you're thinking of getting into something a bit more graphical and want to use the numbered grid setup as a "mapping" for what should be drawn, then look into Java Graphics.
