DX8 SDK and Runtime

You get a choice when installing the SDK whether you want the debug or retail run-time component (dlls) installed. MS say the debug version is slower, which is bad news if your PC is also a games machines, but it gives extended error messages and is therefore easier to debug your programs with it. The retail version is exactly what you already have.

So unless you chose the debug run-time, having the SDK on won''t affect anything else. I''ve no idea what running commercial software with the debug libraries is like since I always use the retail libraries.
