Glowing Lines

Recommended Posts

Hello, I''m drawing some circles in OpenGL using... glBegin (GL_LINE_LOOP); I''m trying to find a way (the best) to make the lines glow, or appear gaseous. Does anyone know how to do this? Thanks NasMan

glEnable(GL_BLEND)
glBlendFunc(GL_SRC_ALPHA, GL_ONE_MINUS_SRC_ALPHA)
glColor(0,1,0,0.5)
draw line

(also disable texturing + lighting)

or instead of a line use a thin quad as a texture

Haven''t actually tried it myself, but you could draw the line once as a line, and then draw a transparent quad slightly wider over the top for the glow ( with additive transparency perhaps?).

This would allow you to control the colour of the line, the colour of the glow and how bright the glow is, as three separate parameters....which should allow you to tweak it to look nice.

Game production:
Good, quick, cheap: Choose two.

I''d try a textured quad...

but you could use a simple 1D texture, and alpha it on, as stated before.

good luck

I used to be indecisive. Now I''m not so sure...
