wrong character selection field

I'm trying to make a mod for a 3d diablo-clone game but I'm having a problem with the area of highlighting of the models i introduced in the game. Said introduced model is an enemy, of course, and when I move the mouse pointer over the area, the area of highlighting of the said character is so large that wherever my mouse pointer is on the screen, the character gets highlit. This is an anomaly because it doesn't happen with the other models which were originally there, their field of selection is only reduced to the boundaries of their outline. My question is, has anyone ever come across any such problem and how have you solved it please? clues and opinions are very welcome.
