Timer in c++

Ok, i want to do a timer that renders my opengl scene for a defined time. Im trying to render some graphical scene for cope of seconds and then clear screen to black, but i have no idea how to make a timer to do that :\

It will largely depend on your platform. Generally, you put something in your update loop which checks if it's been $x time, and if it is, triggers some stored (boost::)function.
