Hi im new to the forums and well my friend and i are trying to get into making our own game. He says mmorpg but i figured we'd try to keep it small for now and work on something that big later. We are both aren't too comp savy but we can get around so we aren't so noobish. I'm here to mainly ask where to get started like with what programs because ive heard so many things about lightwave and microsoft visual studio and C+ java etc etc etc. It gets pretty confusing but what im trying to get done is full motion video with audio that either looks like http://webpages.csus.edu/~ttt22/FFX2.jpg [from final fantasy] or something from the game Okami. http://ps2media.gamespy.com/ps2/image/article/708/708264/okami-20060512102010492.jpg but i believe i'm ready to spend the time and patience to work on something like this. i just don't know where to start and everytime i find something it leads me further into the depths of confusing.

I'd recommend starting with Python and PyGame. Python is a simple programming language, and PyGame is a simple library for writing games. While they are both simple, they allow you to get complete games up on the screen quickly, with little effort.
