I am implementing the network on a 3D platform. Whenever I call the function "recv(ConnectSocket, recvBuffer, recvBufferLen, 0)", the program is just waiting for the msg to be sent over. So the screen cannot be rendered, and the graphics just stop there. Is there a way such that I know there will be a coming msg, then only I call the recv function? And I want to send the msg with font and size, what can I do? Thanks :)

Is this post at all related to this one? If so, was there something in my response that was confusing, or did it just not answer your question fully?

You'll have to encode the formatting information in with the text string itself. A simple way to do this would be to use '<' and '>' tags to delimit formatting info. For example, to send the text "I like spicy pie" in the font Wingdings with a size of 3.14159, you might format your message like this:
stringToSend = "<FONT=WINGDINGS><SIZE=3.14159><MESSAGE=I like spicy pie>"
Interpreting this message on the other end is a matter of parsing for the information between the delimiters, and taking action depending on what the innards are.

Hope that's helped.

The Forum FAQ suggests using select(), or possibly non-blocking sockets for this case.
