That is correct the MDX 2 system is dead, and XNA has arrived. But you can still use the old MDX 1.1 with you applications.

Also you can use the XNA Framework on the older machines by overloading the graphics device and using the software devices.
Have a look at this post

Just as an addition to what has already been said [grin]

I haven't tested this btw but I can't see why it wouldn't work ....if you did really really want to use MDX 2.0 (even though I also strongly suggest using MDX 1.1 or XNA) you could probably get your hands on an old DirectX SDK from before MDX 2.0 stopped being included (like August 2006) and turn your system clock back to before the timebomb rendered MDX 2.0 unusable (so any time before October 5th 2006 should do). Then you could work with it till your heart's content [grin]

Seriously though, MDX 1.1 and XNA rock, so use those instead [wink]

All the best,

But then your pretty much stuck never releasing anything you create with MDX 2.0. There wasn't a drastic amount different between MDX 1.1 and 2.0 anyways (Templated class libraries, and a few new helper classes, big deal). Personally if your just getting into the graphics scene, XNA is the way to go. If you need something with Video playback and Direct Input, (and could care less about 360 support) MDX may be the way to go. In reality, both are DirectX 9 under the hood. If your looking for an alternative to Managed DirectX, check out the TAO framework. TAO is an managed library for OpenGL and also contains managed bindings for several other graphics related libraries.
