I have visual studio 05. I downloaded DirectX Feb 2007. I have windows xp, here is where my problem is I think. I downloaded a tutorial that includes #include <d3d10.h> #include <d3dx10.h> -so that wont compile lol. But then I tried with #include <d3d9.h> with another code. Now I get this compile error. Cannot open include file: 'd3d9.h' Im guessing I need to go into tools options and give it a link or something to the directx, does anyone know what to do?

You won't be able to compile examples that use DirectX 10 (#include <d3dx10.h>) unless you're running windows vista and have a DX10 compatible video card (or you could run it in software, which won't be fun).

The installer should have set this up for you, but anyway. In VC++, go to tools > options > projects and solutions > VC++ directories. In the "Show directories for" drop-down menu: select "include files", click new line and type "[Where you installed the SDK to]\Include". Then in the drop-down menu: click "Library files", click new line and type "[SDK install directory]\Lib\x86\" (replace x86 with x64 if you have a 64 bit processor).

You should be able to compile your examples now [smile].
